If you want to take advantage of these offers, don’t let me stop you. However, in case you were unaware, Tesco is possibly one of the largest and most controversial workfare providers. Wikipedia describes “Government workfare policies whereby individuals must undertake work in return for their benefit payments or risk losing them”. Tesco makes massive profits and yet avoids millions of pounds of UK tax (UK Uncut). Instead of using workfare placements to fill their staff quota they could easily pay a decent wage for every employee. Sending unemployed people on workfare schemes reduces their chances of finding paid employment (Scriptonite) and replaces real jobs with slave labour. “Community workfare schemes literally treat the unemployed as criminals” (Boycott workfare), with them receiving harsher sentences than you can receive on community service. If you are faced with workfare, or know anyone who is, please make sure you know your rights.
Please, help share the message and you might win a ten quid tesco gift card, which they are sending to me, to send out at my own expense. How tight is that!!!
Competition ends on 8/10/2013. UK & IRE.
Have fun, and, be enlightened!
