We all know how much it costs to kit the kids out in something stylish, and I’ve never had £500 in my pocket to satisfy my inner stylist, so I thought I’d have a crack at winning this competition.  The remit was: “Style an outfit from this season’s Next’s maternity or childrenswear ranges to value of £500 and write an accompanying blog post telling Next why these are your fashion favourites, linking to the products of your choice and showing pictures too.”

I’m not sure if the whole outfit had to add up to £500 or if it is £500 or less, it would be very hard to style one for exactly that amount so I am going to assume the £500 or less option!  If you click on the pictures you will be taken to the corresponding items on the next website.

For my son, I simply HAD to start the outfit with these Converse, at £30 they are just fantastic, so cute and great for this time of year.  Because of the terrible weather, though, I’d have to choose some wellies too, so these gorgeous blue ones for £11 could stay in the car for any muddy or wet opportunities.

This burgundy baseball jacket would work beautifully with the Converse, and at £18 it’s very reasonable for a coat.  But I’ve added this gorgeous cagoule for £14 to be kept handy for those pesky little raindrops we keep seeing.

These £9 jeans look really comfy and the pull-up design is perfect for my newly potty trained two year old.  I love jeans for my son because they can withstand the punishment that he puts his clothes through, and the roll up design can give his legs some air if it becomes unexpectedly sunny.

I ADORE this £12 rolling stones t-shirt and it’d look fab with the jeans, and topical for this years’ patriotism with the jubilee/football/olympics fever.

I’m going to go a bit mad here and add this adorable monster hoody in case it gets cold – at £15 it looks so snuggly warm – do you think they do a mummy version?

In case it is sunny, he’d need some yellow sunnies (£6)

Now you see why I need such a mahoosive handbag – I like to be prepared for every eventuality!!  The total value of this  all weather British summertime outfit is £115 and I would love to be able to buy these items in real life with the fantastic £500 prize fund.
